My Husband Didn’t Like Cats

When I met my husband, he wasn’t a cat person. He had simply never understood why people loved cats so much. And then Somalis came into his life.
Little by little, they won him over. They followed him around the house, sat beside him, waited for him, talked to him and, of course, helped with absolutely everything.
Kittens were probably the final step. It is quite difficult to keep saying you don’t like cats when there are little Somalis climbing onto you and asking for attention.
He has a particular weakness for our blue kittens — although, as you can see, the two in his arms here are very definitely sorrel.
Somewhere along the way, cats simply became part of our everyday life. There is usually one on his chair, another waiting outside the bathroom door, and at least one trying to see what he is doing.
And I think that is what Somalis do so well. They don’t just live in the same house with you — they want to be involved. Whatever you are doing, they are quite sure it concerns them too. He may still say that he is not a cat person. But I think these two know better.
